2 years, 3 months…and my luck runs out

Well, it happened. I figured it would, eventually. I’ve contracted COVID.

Can I pinpoint where? Not with certainty, but I have ideas. Hubby has been testing negative, was home this week for vacation anyway.

Being that I’m double vaccinated & double boosted, my symptoms have been mild. I woke up on Tuesday morning with a sore throat and body aches. Out of an abundance of caution, I took a test. It started showing positive within 5 minutes.

Took another one today. It showed positive before it got to the control section.

I emailed my PCP, asking what the next step was. He set me up with a telehealth appointment. Given my history of asthma & bronchitis, I qualified for the prescription medication. Started the regimen yesterday.

Things are mild. I can taste, smell, breathe, and don’t have a fever. My cough is mild, sore throat is calming down. What seems to be the biggie is the exhaustion. I’ll be up for a few hours, then crash for 3-4.

I’m listening to what my body needs me to do so I can fight this off.

We have a spare bedroom, where my husband’s been sleeping. Outside of my isolation room, I mask up. We stay at least 6′ away from each other. If I’m moving to a different area, I let him know so he can mask up.

Work was told. The policy is a minimum of 5 days away, plus a negative result, before I can come back. I’m hopeful for a return on Monday. I also plan to remain masked at work for 1-2 weeks after my return. For me, that’s better than finding out later that a co-worker got sick.

Because, yeah…I think that’s where I caught it. A co-worker was out for 2 weeks. Didn’t take all the meds, etc.

My mild discomfort from wearing a mask is not worth someone else’s health. Sadly, they didn’t think the same way.

Anyhow, I’m doing what I need to do. For my physical and mental health. Have a few friends who check in with me a couple times a day, which helps. Watched some tv, more naps, etc.

Will I write? I don’t know. I’d rather just relax and recover.

  1. I’m glad you are taking care of yourself. And I know you have a good plan for your return to work. I’m just irked (that’s the mild word for what I am really…) that someone you have to interact with was thoughtless. Sending you healing vibes.
